Default school is almost done

I have exactly 2 weeks and I will have my Bachelor's degree. I decided to take a break from the heavy workload and read some posts on APC. Many, many things have happened during a very short period of time. ATA, Aloha, is gone, Delta and NW have been merged. I guess my point is, I am sensing a real instability in the industry, and I wonder if it is a good idea to have a strong desire to become a pilot at a time like this. Surely, gas prices are not going to drop and things might get worse in the future. I do have a potential job coming up after graduation and I am hoping to pay for my flight training from that job. I am pretty sure that 152 at the local FBO costs about $100 an hour now. So just sharing my thoughts...I would say the best place to work at this point looks like a nice International Airline like Cathay Pacific or Emirates. So for all you, youngsters major in something that you CAN actually fall back on. For me, I can't imagine what I'd do without pursuing a career in aviation. So yes, I am going to give it a shot.

Thanks Senior Skipper. I majored in Humanities. True, it is not a degree that will get me a high paying job right out of college, but I was able to finish it in approximately 4 years and it gave me the freedom to take a wide variety of classes from meteorology, biology, and music to other interesting stuff like Women's studies (only guy in class), and a few history classes. It was a good run, but if I majored in something like Engineering I highly doubt that I will make it by now...So no regrets, just hoping the aviation industry will be blossoming by my time
