Default (Yet Another) New Kid

Well I just came across these forums and I want to be a commercial pilot when I get older. Well I live in New York and I am 14 years old. I am debating on either doing my training through flight school or the air national guard.(Military) I have wanted to be a airline pilot for about 3 years now. I am aware of the increasing oil prices. I am going into high school next year and would like to get my plan together.
Thank You

Hey, welcome to the forums.

As a 15 year old with the same ambitions, I feel like I'm in the same boat as you for the most part.

I would suggest taking some lessons during high school to make sure that it's definitely what you want to do as a profession and that you still enjoy flying and to receive your private pilot's license which will be useful whether you choose to continue the civilian route or train in the military.

Keep in mind, if you go to the military, make sure you also get your college degree!

Anyways, see ya around,
Brandon

1) Go to college.
2) Enjoy college.
3) Repeat 1 and 2, you have the rest of your life to worry about work.

They seem to be getting younger and younger. Or I'm getting older.

Well, Cooper (and Suplux), enjoy high school. Meet some girls (assuming you are both boys). Learn respect, compassion and empathy. Give something back. Say "I love you" to your family and friends. Have fun.

And keep us apprised of your flight training. I used to have an old thread giving everyone a blow by blow account of how I got my 15 hours. Then life and responsibility got in the way of it all. I heard a collective sigh of relief from the oldtimers.

Hey guys,
I've got an 8 yr old and when people ask me if he is going to be an airline pilot like his Dad I tell them he will never pass the physical since I will break both his legs. Seriously, Aviation is a disease with no known cure so pursue it but make sure you have a solid back up plan. Get your degree in some other field outside of aviation; get an MBA and get your own jet and fly for fun! Regardless, have a good time on the way and enjoy.

I definitely don't want to hijack this thread, but if you read my intro thread you'd realize that nothing will stop me from pursuing this, and I'm sure it's the same with Cooper. Definitely, however, I'll be getting a degree in something other than aviation.

"I am going into high school next year and would like to get my plan together"

I wouldn't worry about "getting your plan together". It will change 10 times, anyway, for various reasons outside your control. You'd be better off worrying about high school and life. Stay out of trouble and give school your best shot. Think about your private license at 16, and maybe your IFR after that. That's what I did. When the time comes for college, see where the industry is and see if the military is still an option. It wasn't for me because of my poor uncorrected vision.

Well guys thank you so much for your input and will never loss the passion for flying. It is like a drug and yes I have took some lessons and it is addictive and very costly as a 14 year old. I would love to privately talk to a commercial pilot if possible maybe someone who is a captain in a 737-300 . If someone out there who is a captain for a 737-300 please email me at coo_p_er@yahoo.com.
Thank You

I would love to privately talk to an MD-11 captain. Size matters, Cooper, my young friend.

Ok, sorry for the thread drift. I'll try to behave from now on. Actually, I'm off to O'Hare! Maybe I'll see some of you there.

High school.....college (not aviation)......then think about what you want to do.....you have plenty of time to take the aviation career path if that is what you decide to do after college. Then, if an aviation career does not pan out you have a degree to fall back on.
