Default New Member-New Student!

Hey fellas, and gals. My name is Dave, I am a 19 year old aspiring Pilot currently in the stage of gaining my Private Pilot License. I am a native of Boston, moved to California when I was 11, and currently a student of the Bay Area. I have had a passion for flying and the field of Aviation in general since before I could remember. I am beginning the stages of Traffic Patterns, which will eventually lead to my first solo flight! I have nearly 10 hours of flight time under my belt, and hopefully that number will increase smoothly over the coming months.

Seems just like yesterday when I had 10 hours and my instructor signed off my student pilot certificate. It was a rush! I started flying when I was 18 and now i'm 20 and have a little over 300 hours. When you said "Bay area" does that mean San Fransico? Whats the flying like out that way?

That is amazing that you attained your license after only 10 hours of flight! Flying around the bay Area is wonderful. I live in the Contra Costa County District, which is near the semi-famous Mount Diablo. Flying around here gives me a view of San Francisco, the Golden Gate Bridge, and many other significant sights. We also get a lot of traffic flying to Travis Air Force Base. In the past two weeks there has been an F15 flying to and from my airport, and a monstrous C-17 GlobemasterIII which flew right over me during a lesson. That was really cool.

Im sure that he meant he was signed off for his first solo at 10 hours.

I still find that impressive. Maybe it's different between schools, all I know is that you have to be damn good to acquire the solo around or under the 10 hour mark.

It can also be due to a Part 141 school with a developed syllabus vs. Part 61 FBO, flying with an expereinced instructor, showing up prepared for the lesson, and a number of other factors. From what little I remember of my instructing days 8-10 hours was the norm.

A lot depends on how many days/weeks it takes to accumulate those 10 hours. Flying once a week, you probably won't solo for 20 or more. But if you can fork over the money, find the time, and fly every other day for two weeks - it's a lot more likely you will be ready. Smartest thing I did in flying: first lesson to private pilot in about 10 weeks (back in the Reagan Administration!)
