Default Bob Hoover

I wish I could have met the man. I love watching his videos. Truly a man among boys.

...irreplaceable. Bob Hover was such an inspiration and the best ambassador aviation has ever had. The people Bob called his friends are and remain the frontiers of aviation.

I saw him at multiple airshows in the 70's , 80's and 90's. His shrike commander routine was amazing. He would always chat and pose for pictures with you at his booth where he sold his books. His autobiography is a very good read. He was screwed by the FAA when some inspector thought he was acting strange and they suspended his medical certificate. One of the best pilots ever! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g7R7jZmliGc

If you never saw any of his shows you missed some amazing flying.

Note that everything after about 6:30 on the tape is done with both engines shut down including the loop and landing!

This, and all prior accolades x (4,8,16).
I saw him fly multiple airshows in the 60's, 70's, and 80's. I still have his autograph on airshow program from the 70's. Saw both the Shrike and P51 performances.

My all time favorite video was the one where he poured tea into a glass while doing a roll. His autobiography "Forever Flying" is a good read.

One of my friend's dad was in a POW camp with Bob Hoover. Mr. Cecil told us a good story before he passed about Bob. Bob liked to get a blade of grass from the prison yard and sneak it in at night. When all the prisoners were supposed to lay down and sleep, he'd put the blade of grass between his thumbs and squeal like a wounded rabbit. Said it ****ed the German guards to no end as their guard dogs would bark incessantly even after beating the crap out of them.

RIP Mr Hoover!

Probably one of the few if only who escaped from prison camp, stole a German plane and flew home. I heard he said he figured it was better then walking!
