I am sorry, but that guy answering questions in the Q&A is so misguided.

Delta and Northwest pilots should be on the same team. Sure the merger will create a much better airline with much better pricing power, much better career progression opportunities, and a much better contract...

But for some reason the NWA MEC decided to oppose the merger. Maybe if you guys actually stayed at the negotiating tables, you would have a seniority agreement and the same contract that Delta got.

Let me give you a hint NWA MEC. Your career expectations were hurt infinitely times more when you gave away your 50 seat scope and allowed Compass and Mesaba to have 76 seat jets than they will be if you loose out on a little bit on seniority due to the merger.

If the NWA MEC stops this merger, they will have no one to blame for the state of affairs at a standalone NWA but themselves. For once management is trying to do something beneficial to the airline...and now the NWA pilots are opposed.... STUPID!

I've only been at Cal for two years, and haven't had the chance to "cave", but I do know that we (CAL) should keep our mouths shut until we make it through our upcoming mess. I'm not sure iahflyer is a Cal guy.

While I appreciate the concerns that opposition of this merger by the NWA MEC is a bad idea, you should know they are totally convinced that the atmosphere has been so poisoned, that any synergistic benefits are already lost. Thus they prefer to stand alone or merge with another carrier (possibly CAL). Delta pilots made an excellent decision to oppose and beat back the hotile attempt from USAir. Our MEC now appears to have made the same decision. I'm sure Delta and the DAL MEC is contingency planning for their own stand alone option or the next more appropriate merger partner.

The big difference was that DAL management was also opposed to that merger. If JG wanted to sell Delta to US Airways, we never would have stopped it. This isn't a hostile takeover. Steenland has no intention of working with you to stop it. He has $ signs in his eyes and will cram this down your throats.

Just,

That is your opinion. You could be right, or you could be wrong. I know that our MEC has great relations with Jim Oberstar and other legislators that have publicly stated their opposition to this merger. The NWA MEC strategy could be to have congressional allies scrutinize this deal into the next Presidential administration. If memory serves, Clinton, Obama and McCain think mergers are anti competitive and state "grave concerns" about their approval. Will the NWA MEC be successful? Who knows. But it will have nothing to do with Steenland ramming anything down anyone's throat. Too many constituencies in play.
