Default NWA jumpseat Denial

I had a conversation with a Delta new hire who actually lives in MSP. I asked if he planned on bidding to MSP and he said he was not sure now that he had dealt with NWA pilots. He has been denied the jumpseat 3 times now trying to commute to work. In one case they put a American pilot on the jumpseat who came up at the last minute and left him at the gate. In all cases the Captain made the decision not the gate agent. In one case the Captain ranted and raved about how he got screwed by the Roberts award for 5 minutes before telling him he would not take him. These occurred prior to release of the new seniority list. This type of behavior is abhorrant and a direct contradiction of jumpseat policy. I am told that there has not been one instance of a NWA pilot being denied a Delta jumpseat but this is not the only Delta pilot who has experienced this on NWA flights. A friend of mine at NWA told me to keep one thing in mind as the merger progresses. He said "NWA is a culture of hate". If you understand that much of what happens will make sense. I am starting to fear he may be correct. I hope any NWA pilots who hear of this type of things at least speak up to the pilots in question and tell them how wrong they are to behave in this manner. It can only be distructive to all of us in the long run.

Amen. Using the jumpseat as a political tool is just wrong.
I have never seen a Delta Captain deny anyone the jumpseat.

Why dump on a new hire, pretty low.

Default I Hope Not

I honestly find this hard to believe, but if it is true, I would submit the following:
1. There is more to the story than we know now.
2. If it did happen it is just PLAIN WRONG regardless of any missing part of the story!
3. There will always be the exception to the rule. (i.e. the crackpot, out of touch, doooosh bag, nut job that feels it is his sole lot in life to single-handedly correct all of the "wrongs of the world" by personally making every innocent bystander of a target group suffer retaliation through his personal ranting, raving and childish behavior which is just PLAIN WRONG) He should not serve as a representative of the whole group.
4. Why dump on ANYBODY, much less a new hire.
5. Hopefully this has been brought to the attention of the jump seat committee.

While getting denied the jumpseat ala the east/west fiasco is reprehensible, why wasn't he using his non-rev benefits? That way, it doesn't matter what kind of jerk the captain is. Also, I hope that he has let the jumpseat coordinator know or if he didn't, you at least told him too.

Don't know the circumstances, but probably because the flight was full.

I agree 100%. I have never seen a jumpseater get denied. IF that really happened than it should get brought up to the jumpseat committee. I do find it hard to believe though because on every occasion of having a Jumpseater they have always been treated great.

I have only denied the Jump Seat once. To an EAL scab. Gutsy move on that scab's part. Asked for a ride, right after our NWA strike. I checked my list, pointed to his name and asked if he had scabbed for EAL. He said yes, and he left the cockpit.
