C12flyer,

Thanks for the info. Concerning your question: Why did they do a BI on a Federal Employee? Dude, you got me. I honestly can not give an intelligent answer to your question, because I asked myself the same thing. I’m a permanent federal employee and an AF vet, but it is was it is. Bottom line, I got through it, now I'm waiting for my release date. Hopefully, this will be sooner rather than later. My BI took a long time because of incorrect information. Example: They came back to me and inquired about me being allegedly fired from my last job for "insubordination", which is a completely incorrect statement. So, I had to provide documentation from the president of the company in question to write Customs a letter stating otherwise. That’s what held mine up. It really makes you wonder about Kroll, the agency CBP uses for the BI. Byebyeairlines know all about the BS concerning my BI. You got to love incompetent people. Good luck to everyone who is waiting!!

Agree, no shortage of incompetence. After my tentative offer of employment I was told next events to follow will be the drug test and the BI. The pee test call came within two weeks but no investigator called. After three months with no call I sent an email to DC about the status of my application. DC claimed they didn't know who I am therefore the file was never sent from Minneapolis, so I sent Minneapolis an email. Minneapolis said they did sent my file and have the receipts records to prove it. Copied and pasted what Minneapolis wrote and emailed DC again...No response. Gave them a call (which is a pain in the ass to do from Middle East). The agent in DC gives me a whole bunch of names and telephone numbers that would help me in my search. In other words the Fed Government has misplaced my file with very detailed personal info but I should do my own detective work in tracking it down. I did eventually find the right person who was interested in the disappearance of my file. Two weeks later, good news, they found it. But I assume they felt bad enough for the loss of time that they put me at the top of the pile consequently it took 11 days from the time my file was "found" till the call from the Investigator. Had I not enquired about the status of my application I'd probably still be waiting now.
Let the good times roll.

C12flyer,

Got to love "da gubment". What base did you get? I'm the [ ].N.G., so I don't know much at all. But, what I did hear is that once you get past the HR bs CBP is a very cool gig and the people are great. Take man and good luck.

The tentative offer (pending pee test and BI) was for Sierra Vista, Arizona. However the position would be flying UAS (formerly known as UAVs). Lets just say the thought of flying remote control airplanes doesn't exactly thrill me but at least I'll get my foot in the door.

Dutch,

Congrats on the location. I was looking into the Miami branch because they have Blackhawks. But I was told that I couldn't get a pinpoint location yet because HR didn't have any current vacancies.

How long ago did you find out you were headed to Homestead?

My BI cleared about a month ago and was told to sit and wait until October before I could expect a pinpoint.

Cheers,
-Dax

hey dustoff,

I got an email asking if I was a u.s citizen, if i had had civilian federal time, and If i was using vets pref., and then asked for a copy of my DL. Did you get this same email just prior to your background clearing?

Dustoffdax,

Actually, here is the latest and greatest regarding this never ending journey. I got off the phone with K.D. a few days ago, AND I'm in the same boat as you. Even though I received the conditional offer for Homestead, there is currently nothing open. She said wait until October for an opening. That means its anybodies guess to my duty location. Well, at least we are in the pipeline with everything completed. I figure all the time and money spent on the BI, they will eventually use us. Honestly, though I believe this time in the holding pattern may prove very helpful. This will give me time to hit the gym and run in order to prepare myself for FLETC, and will allow my wife to finish her MBA. I hate waiting, but it's all going to work out. I wish everyone the very best.

C12flyer,

I'm with you, I'll take whatever they have to give. The important thing is getting past the HR barrier, and pressing on. That's why, with all the out of work pilots out there, I'm not going to be choosy. Hey, at least we are in with the BI and other rejecting factors behind us. Good luck man.

Triumph,

I didn't get any questions like you did before my BI cleared. My BI went pretty quick as compared to some other folks that I've heard. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason on why some folks take a while and some go by pretty quick.

Dutch,
Thanks for the info on the location issue. I've heard the same thing about waiting until October to get a location. So the same story from multiple folks must be true, right?
