Attended an AFPC brief yesterday. I actually knew what the Retired Return/Limited Recall message traffic said better than the briefer did.
Of note, "emerging rated requirements" exceed "normal" AFPC planned requirement by 1,666. Still a boatload of 365's to the desert. 365's are apparently the ONLY thing in the requirements list that'll be filled to 100%.

You sure about that? What I saw said "retired" individuals weren't eligible...nothing about people who'd previously separated.

I think a betting man would be smart to guess as you do on the subject--but strictly speaking what you say isn't true. I've known many many guys who came back in after 9/11 who got exactly the airframe/location they wanted.

I thought I read in the message that although you are back on "Active Duty," you are still a reservist and still compete for promotion under the AF Reserve. Your PRF will still be written. That's a tricky situation regarding the OPR. But, if you are at Terminal Rank..then oh well..

Yes, after 9/11 a lot of folks went to the good deals. But now, the need is for UAVs and ISR, and that is where folks are primarily going to go. I think a lot depends on your qualifications when you left. Someone who was a patch is probably going to where they can put that to use, where someone without is going elsewhere. Always exceptions to the rule.

And it stated in the link to the ask website that you are still eligible for promotion through the reserve system, just not the active duty system. Think of this as getting 2-3 years of orders...thats all.

I sent an email telling them that if I could get orders to my active associate unit at my base then I would take them. I ain't holding my breath.
I am not interested in the all expenses paid trip to Indian Springs or Baghdad!

Be real careful. If you are sitting at 10-15 yrs of service and sign up for 24/36/48 months, then you might be risking your reserve job. I think you will relinquish your slot in your respective reserve squadron if you opt for the AD recall. However, if you are sitting at 16+ yrs of active service, then you can ride it out, claim sanctuary, and get the retirement. I would expect your reserve SQ/CC to hand you a 1288 on your way out the door. If they hold your slot for you, then that would be great. Just make sure you know exactly what is waiting for you at the end of your contracted service.
