Default Military Helo Age Requirements

First thanks to all who have served.

Does anyone know if the age cutoff for helicopter pilots is the same as for fixed wing (30 yrs)?

For the Navy see below, STA-21 now encompasses OCS which I'm assuming you're inquiring about

https://www.netc.navy.mil/programs.html

Age: STA-21 Pilot Option candidates must be at least 19 years old and able to complete degree requirements and be commissioned prior to age 27. Maximum age limit may be adjusted upward to age 29 with active duty or prior active duty service computed on a month-for-month basis and approved by PERS-435A. No waivers beyond 29.

NROTC - Must not have reached 27th birthday by June 30 of year in which graduation and commissioning are anticipated
• Applicants with prior military service may be eligible for age adjustments for amount of time equal to their prior service, on month-by-month basis, for maximum of 36 months, if they will not reach 30th birthday by June 30 of year graduation and commissioning are anticipated

Would you consider the army?

Do you have what it takes to become a Warrant Officer? Applicants for the Warrant Officer Candidate School/Warrant Officer Flight Training program/ Technical Specialties must:

Have a high school diploma.
Be at least 18 years of age at the time of Regular Army enlistment and not have passed your 33rd birthday when the board convenes (age waiver will not be considered). High school seniors may also apply.

From their website.

So does anyone have any idea what the approximate annual income is for this position? There seem to be a lot of layers of pay to add up. I need to convince the wife that we could survive on the pay.

Military Pay Tables. Flight pay and BAS add a few hundred. BAH (housing) is where you make your money. Out here in Hawaii its over 2k (adjusted for the local rental market for where you are stationed, google BAH calculator...). Having dependents adds a few hundred as well. Oh, and COLA (cost of living allowance) is another $400 to $500 if you are stationed in a place that has COLA (like hawaii). So add the extras and it turns out to be a decent amount. The warrant officers I work with live comfortably, even with families. I think total depending on years of service and rank they make between $50k and $100k

First you'd have to get a commission. I don't know how easy it would be to get an OCS slot with a Flight Training contract...I've never met an OCS pilot. Most pilots in the Army are Warrant Officers, which is another job to consider if you want to fly. We commissioned folk don't fly nearly as much. All but 1 of the commissioned pilots I know were ROTC/service academy. Doesn't mean it can't be done.

I do know one guy out here who was enlisted, went to Warrant Officer Candidate School since he couldn't get an OCS slot with guaranteed aviation. Upon arriving at his first assignment as a warrant officer he dropped an OCS packet, got picked up, went to OCS, and 14 weeks later was a commissioned officer. This is another possibility...
