Default Sim instructor jobs at Vance AFB (UPT)

What's up with all the hiring at Vance? I see they are GS jobs. I've been out of UPT a while, but back in the day the civilan instrutors were contractor employees - not Fed employees. Given the large numbers I see they are looking for, it must be that they are taking back the work from a contractor.

Is this a reaction to something at Vance, or is this the way all UPT bases will do their Sim training?

Anybody at Vance or close to the issue know the scoop?

A few of my co-workers here in Iraq were LSI instructors at CBM. According to them, CBM sim intructors are going GS in the near future and will be taking a significant pay cut as well as degraded QOL issues. Sounds like there will be more then a few walking away.

Really? I can't see how they'd lose money going GS, but it's been a while since I was there. My recollection was that LSI pay wasn't so great. And every time the contract changed....

I know some doing sim jobs in our primary and advanced jet training and they are making some pretty good money. Sim IPs in the FRSs are making near, if not over, $100k I believe full time. I can see these being turned in to GS-12-13ish positions and they wouldn't be making that much cash. I doubt this is good for those positions as far as pay goes. I'll ask around and see if any of those guys have heard about rumblings for their own work.

Yep, all of them are going Civil Service. All of the guys here at Vance I have talked to have to apply for their own job to keep it.

I wouldn't be surprised if the government claims that these jobs were "created" by the stimulus money...

I was told by an LSI instructor during a rant that he's getting a 17k pay cut, and that some supervisors are losing about 30k.

I can believe the part about the pay cut. The government transitions jobs from active military to contractor to limit end-strength manning concerns. They would only transition from contractor to GS to save money (i.e. it had to have some sort of cost-benefit ratio improvements for them to go through the trouble).

Friends of mine that are current sim instructors at CBM said the current administration is converting all SUPT sim instructor jobs to GS and eliminating contractors. Pay cuts are certain and they are assessing benefits. Got to believe its "good " for administration and "bad" for contractors. BOHICA.

Does LSI have any kind of pension plan? If not, then it could be similar in the long run, if the govt has any money to pay pensions in 10-20 years.
