To VSP or not to VSP?

FLY6584,
I see your points, and I agree - the handling could have been done much cleaner. What I'm trying to tell you - from a graybeard perspective - is that the IG complaint isn't going to go anywhere unless it's for the better of the "forces" - a utilitarian view. Your base IG has very little to say with regards to the way A1 runs things -- will it get highlighted, sure. But it won't change. Heck, we still don't have an *official* answer on anything! Unless you roll in with a mutiny, now we're talking.
All I'm saying is that you would have a LEGIT complaint if for some reason you were given VSP, then it was pulled back -- THEN, during the time you were approved for VSP you applied to Guard/Reserve units, etc -- then, and only then, would I think you'd have a serious issue.
You applied and they changed the rules -- happens all the time, trust me! As it stands, and not trying to throw a flame - but I see it as you just complaining to complain.
On a side note - is PC an option for you?

I see a lot of chatter about PC as a back up plan for people in case VSP doesn't work out. Am I the only one who can't get a reply back or any inclination of interest from Guard/Reserve units? It would move up in my list of options except I don't have a unit lined up. What trick am I missing?

Looks like we are hijacking the thread --
But, take a look here:
Air National Guard / Air Force Reserves - Baseops Forums
The Guard/Reserve gig is all on who you know and what you can bring to the table. It is MUCH more than just applying -- it's hanging out with the unit (rushing), learning the lifestyle, etc. ALL units are hiring, it's just a matter of when you get the call….
I'd recommend picking up the phone and calling the Chief Pilot and ask to come visit the unit, etc. Show some initiative.

yes. do it!
Fellas it might involve changing airframes but there are several opportunities in the ang these days. C17 in wv (dc metro area) as well as some c130 and kc135 units may have openings. True, the plum locations are full but there are still plenty of opportunities for those brave enough to take the step out of active duty.

I completely disagree although I agree with you're earlier comment. What the Air Force pushed out in the beginning was thousands have to go. We'll give you the voluntary option (and pay you more for it) but if enough don't volunteer, we'll fire the rest. They identified all the overages and laid out the programs including ADSC waivers. Did they really think a significant number of highly qualified folks wouldn't apply? This whole program is an embarrassment.

ATP with less than 1500 hours
Dudes with questions about getting your unrestricted ATP. You can use up to 100 hours of simulator time towards your ATP. I have a little over 1400 hours and was able to get my ATP using this time. I don't have the FAR/AIM in front of me but you can look it up under requirements. It says the SIM must be certified so it is up to the examiner whether he will let you use a military SIM. I used F/A-18 simulator time. I went to a small flight school who teaches the Cessna CJ and talked to the examiner prior to going through the course and getting my ATP and type rating. This will prevent you from having to get the restricted ATP for guys like me having less than 1500 TT. If you have not taken the written yet get it done by the end of this month.
