Yes, the fleet has been modified. 14,500' cabin at FL 700.
Al Dhafra: you may laugh, but we live pretty well there. You probably don't know the full extent of U-2 life there. I'll gladly go from October-March. But forget the hot months!!
I'm a South Texas boy, but the CA weather is stunning. Beale/Sacramento is a great place to live.
I may change my mind when I retire, and have to pay CA taxes.

Hey Huggy,
How's the manning these days? Any chance they'll activate a reservist for a 3 year tour?? Having fun in the 10, but I miss the view

It depends on how many VSP's and TERA's the AF allows. A lot of pilots have applied.
Good to hear from you, Hos!

I wonder what will happen with the U-2 airframes.

"USAF Will Scrap, Not Mothball, the A-10 The Air Force isn't planning to mothball its 283 A-10s, but simply retire the type wholesale as part of the Fiscal 2015 budget request, service Secretary Deborah Lee James said Wednesday. James told a Bloomberg defense symposium in Washington, D.C., that "the idea…is to…retire them fully" rather than put the A-10s into Type 1000 storage—meaning they could be returned to operations if needed—at the Davis-Monthan AFB, Ariz., boneyard."

IMHO - this is a really a dumb move.

This is the first I had heard on this *optionally manned* U-2 concept.
It is quite the battle.
