What I want is a job. I am as qualified as I will ever be and have a retirement date in roughly 69 days and not a single call for an interview. Whether SWA is the best fit for me or not, is really a moot point, 100% of the guys I know who have type-ratings have gotten interviews. Not all have been hired, but I'd infinitely prefer being at SWA than at AE or Skywest. If I can get WIA to pick up the tab all the better.

Mike, did you find out anything more about this? I just got a quote for $7300 for the 73 type and would like to keep that in my pocket if at all possible.

I commute out of a hub for a major I don't work for and get asked (usually by people not in tune with hiring) "why didn't you choose XYZ Airline?"...well they didn't call me, and I can't just sit around waiting for the prom queen to ask me to dance. You need to get in somewhere then reevaluate with a bird in hand.

Mike is probably just trying to leverage all of his options, including SWA...
Don't ya just love that? Since I live in Louisville, people just assume that "ups would be a great fit!". Oh sure, I'll just drive down to the hurstborne hq and pick up my badge! It's comical. I ran into a dal 76int guy at jfk a while back who asked why I am not at Delta. Funny how even people IN the business are clueless as to how impossible it is to even get an interview.

No progress, sorry.

I'm pretty bummed right now. I fully accept SWA can set whatever rules they want for hiring, but why give false hope when you're not even considering non-typed applicants? I cannot confirm for myself, but I have a friend with internal connections who claimed that 100% of the people offered an April interview had type ratings. Sorry if this is old news, I've been away from the SWA forums lately.

BS flag!! Every mil guy who interviewed with me at DAL last October (and got hired) had a 737 Type...'splain that!

This is not true. At least one guy in my class (March 14) had no type at the interview and I'm hearing of quite a few interviewees currently who are not (yet) typed.

YMMV...

I would assume having the type in-hand, however, would move your resume to the top of the stack at SWA.

I was referring to the most recent batch of interviews from the April window. That said, I read in the SWA forum that a friend of a friend of a friend who's uncle's car mechanic's hot younger sister that was dating Tommy Lee heard of a guy getting an interview without the type.

The argument that the 737 type rating hinders possibilities at companies other than SWA is extremely myopic. Even if a company doesn't value the specific type rating, it shows you can handle airline style training. Especially helpful if you've been continuously or repetitively qual'd in one military airframe for a decade or two.

If SWA is a primary or backup option for you...do it. If not, don't spend the $. Regardless, people need to stop spewing crap that having it can hurt you.

With the 73 type in hand, if you do go to the legacies and get 73's..you are just going to have to do the type over again during their UA,AA,DAL training... If you are a current mil pilot I'd focus on the legacies. They are mopping us up right now. Not getting a call so far may have something to do with availability date... I got the call one month from separation.
