ANG and Major Airlines

The "gaming" I'm talking about are the guys who get hired, go through initial training, and then the day after their IOE, drop 2 year mil leave orders on the Company. Legal? Sure. Give the Company second thoughts about hiring another Reservist? Absolutely.
Dropping ML for a week, or a month is perfectly fine. You have to stay current, go to upgrade school, PME, etc. it usually doesn't even mean you going noncurrent at the airline.

Gaming the system is looking for years long military employment as an airline new hire for the sole purpose of avoiding dues paying.
But as far as regionals are concerned....screw em, game away. They're running their own game anyhow.

You've gotta do what you've gotta do. In this area (NJ), first year pay with most of the majors barely puts food on the table even living out of a small apartment that costs $1,500+ a month. Do you really think us Guard/Reserve guys should pass up the opportunity to net $7-8k a month on long-term active duty orders while adding points to our retirement? It's not like we're not working for it. At the same time, most airline guys don't have any problems sitting at home on reserve getting paid to day trade. The system gets gamed on both sides, but don't worry; most of the MPA and alert days are drying up for us and those opportunities won't be around much longer.
