Angry USAFR Retirements On Hold (sort of)!

AFRC/CC has decreed that all applications for retirement will use the six month minimum. No more waivers. I know folks who, for professional reasons, were asking for, and getting, waivers for shorter notice retirement. Not any more. Well, at least not for the rest of the FY. So, if you were planning on getting out this summer, forgeddaboutit. Fall at the earliest.

Perhaps the UAL hiring due this fall, the ramp up at Delta, the SWA hiring, etc have made the rated force managers a bit nervous. You guys may not remember what retention looked like in 1998. I do. It was ugly, ugly, ugly...

From an active duty point of view, what you said makes a lot of sense. However, do you think the personnel folks at AFRC are starting to get nervous as well? If so, then this may be just the tip of the iceberg.

If ARPC is sweating now, then I bet AFPC is sweating a lot more... Any predictions on when stop-loss will be announced?

Right about the time the airlines start to furlough.

C-17Driver-

I agree, makes no sense for the Reserves (makes a lot of sense for the AD). A min-running LtCol biding his time out for 6 months contributes nothing to the mission. Further, he is blocking the hiring of a guy coming off AD into the SQ - who might actually fly some missions!

Unless you are holding the LtCol because you are going to activate the SQ, it makes no sense....

Can you imagine getting hired only to have to watch a couple of hundred seniority numbers slip by because you can't attend class for a few months?

Had a conversation with a two-star recently. He said that stop loss has been discussed as a real option, but certain people are scared of the negative media attention for doing so in this "era of fiscal uncertainty". Basically, it would force HAF to acknowledge that they've completely mismanaged the rated force for the past decade.

That's what I was thinking.
