Ouch!! Back in the day, they made the cuts at the 05 level...now it seems they are even more draconian at the 04 level. Anyone know how this compares with the Air Force statistics for 04?

Well, it seems that the airlines and the Navy are in cahoots to help man the "pilot shortage" by making the decision to leave that much easier!

For the non-Navy types here....who are the 1300, 1310 and 1320 desigs? They seem to be the only ones that really took the hits. Are those the aviators? The others were 90% or higher.

1310: Pilot
1320: NFO
1300: non-crew officer assigned to aviation (typically training attrites).

The folks who did good were surface/subs/SEALs/EOD.

I've heard talk of some LTs purposefully not sending in photos to the board and doing some other things in hopes of being FOS'd twice. If that happens, they get a separation bonus on top of their SelRes bonus when they get out, apply to airlines and fly for the reserves.

I guess if you are getting out anyway...

What may not be apparent to other service folks is that there are no "quotas" for certain specialties at the line officer board...all the listed designators are considered as an aggregate, with equal opportunity based on merit and experience. Point being the navy didn't decide not to promote aviators, the aviators themselves decided either by not managing their careers individually, or by their community not providing the opportunities (I've seen both cases). So it might be the case that a bunch of these guys just didn't bother to punch the tickets.

Or, they punched the tickets, and there were no spots at the table (I know).

Also, it's funny math. The Navy considers the promotion percent to be the total selected, but only dividing it by the "in zone" numbers.

By playing with screen groups, they can really make the numbers look less bad.
