Question for you guard/reserve guys:

When you come off orders and notify your airline that you are ready to return...do you usually go right back on health benefits, nonrev, guarantee, etc? Or do they usually wait until they can get you back into class before they offer you any of that?

Either way I don't really care but Im nervous not having health coverage for a few weeks until they can get me into class.

Typically, you don't lose anything for leaves of absences less than 30 days. Over 30 days, it varies by benefit and your airline's rules. I strongly suggest you call your airline's HR and insurance department to get the exact answers to your questions.

At one airline, medical coverage continued for the first 3 months of military leave. After that, it stopped or you needed to write them and pay out of pocket to keep medical insurance. Upon return from military leave, if your insurance was stopped, the insurance was reinstated on your first day of "active status." What constituted active status? I don't know. First day back on the job? Who knows?

Call the HR department.

Remember, you must report to work within:

1 – 30 days of service Report to work the next scheduled work day.
31 – 180 days of service Apply within 14 days after completion of service.
181+ days of service Apply within 90 days after completion of service

Typically your re-employment starts the day you say you're returning, provided you complied with the law. If they don't have a class for you, that's their problem. You should start getting pay and benefits the date you tell them you're available to start.

Healthcare begins the day you return, but I had to utilize a USERRA contact to force my company to comply (with an apology).
