Default VA Benefit - Aid and Attendence Q's

I'm looking at applying for this for my mother (surviving spouse). Anyone been through this and have any tips/words of wisdom?

I think I have all the documentation:
Father's last (?) DD214 and Death Cert
Marriage Cert
Form for her Dr. to fill out.

I would urge anyone with parents, no matter what their age, to start planning for elder care. It's not pretty.

TIA

Check with your county VA office to ensure you have everything, it's not the easiest benefit to appy for. To determine the amount of th award, VA will need a pretty thorough accounting of actual medical expenses. Good luck.

Dittos, the best place is almost always your County VA office, they know the ropes, traps and techniques to help on this effort.

Thanks for the info. Greatly appreciated. After a little digging, it appears as if she will not qualify due to the 80K asset means test. When she does go into a home, that will quickly disappear, then we'll apply.

I had the opportunity to add her to my Long term care policy way back when. Kicking myself on that one.

Do you mind if I ask what VA benefit you're referring to?

Thanks -
