everyone I personally know (three dudes) in the Afghan King Air contract jobs are "doing it to get caught up on bills" and then are bailing.

Most have told me "two years max" as they family buy-in for the above purpose, the time away from home, etc etc hits its peak at the 2 year mark or so

CACI International, another MC-12 operator.

Agree with above statements. No amount of money nor flight time would be worth returning to AFG.

I did plenty of tours as a contractor and honestly, its a good gig with the right people and right company. Sure you are in Afghanistan, but you are supporting the mission, making good coin, and potentially good connections for employment elsewhere. The time off was nice too. Keep in mind, this war, is winding down and the opportunities will slowly go away. If there is a civilian gig CONUS you want, seniority is everything. But, do not simply discount the benefits of being a contractor.

no one is debating that. The problem exists when the wife, aging parents, kids, etc want dad home, as while you are making good money, in more ways than one, they are paying for your absence

Thanks for all the inputs so far, everyone. I am going to keep researching it and if I come up with something good, I'll repost with an update. Happy Thanksgiving, all!

I spent more time at home than I would had I had a traditional airline job (considering a commute). I did not do 180 days a year though..more like 120 to 150. Granted, the stretch of time was greater but having done both, the quality of time at home, from a contractor gig, is way rewarding.

Just ones opinion.

Based on what I am hearing, the L3 jobs are being cut back, and CACI just reduced daily pay by $50. Not sure "what the future holds" for these jobs

Prior PIC King Air or Dash-8 time and TS clearance is the way in at these places. Former military or former/retired Customs or DEA seem to get called quick, at least in the past. Good luck

L-3 just picked up another contract and plans to hire an additional 60-80 pilots this year.....no cuts backs that I've heard of....
