Default Aircraft carriers abandoned in WA?

Hey all,

I notice on google maps that there are several CV's mothballed in Bremerton WA.

Does anybody know if they are viewable for the public? I know they are not listed as museums to visit but is it possible to walk around the pier they are on and take some good pictures?

Thanks in advance.

I think the top gun carrier is there. Don't know if it's accessable.

Contact Public Affairs at the shipyard or Navy Facility that owns them. i'd guess they'll be skittish about it, but you might get lucky (with photos).

In a word....no.

They are very skittish about cameras in and around the industrial area in Bremerton. There are two on the other end of the base that you can see from the outside road, but it wouldn't be a great view.
They are being dismantled and are not in good shape. The base will not allow cameras in the shipyard area at all. Period. They wouldn't even let us have cellphones with cameras.

USS Enterprise is in Norfolk. Going to take a while to pull all eight reactors out of her.

If you're interested in seeing some active duty aircraft carriers I know San Diego has Navy Days once a year, and is more than happy to show you around a shiny active duty carrier Once they're out of service, they're basically scrap and well, just there waiting to be dismantled or made in to a reef.

Loved the Enterprise site!

(Can't believe it didn't get sponsored as a museum)

I hated 99% of the time I spent on that boat, but seeing her cut up still sheds a tear. Probably more history on that boat than any other. From the Cuban missile crisis to OEF, she saw it all.

I had the honor of meeting Admiral Tissot, who was one of the skippers of the Enterprise at the Tailhook Convention. He recently told me that the Enterprise will be towed around Cape Horn to Puget Sound as Hanford is the only place able to deactivate the reactors.
