It's tougher to hand out the bad deal to the non-team player when nobody is a team player in the first place. Then it just comes down to who has the most ADSC remaining.
That's good to hear. It wasn't the case when I was in and it sure sounds like status quo in the OP's situation. Every culture is a little different, I suppose.
I've been out for some time though it seems like it was just yesterday I pulled the trigger. Once you get a little seniority in the airline world, it is so muuuuuch greener on this side of the fence.

Well, agree to disagree. I'm not sure of your background, but my take is that in the AF single-seat world it is still verboten to discuss this in the open, in an AD squadron. Usually the first time you hear of a dude applying to the airlines is the day he puts in his separation paperwork. With full disclosure, i'm talking guys separating. I suppose w/dudes retiring it doesn't really matter what they do when they punch.

Typically Sq/CC and DOs eat/sleep/breath tactics and that's how they shape the sqdn, god forbid you're happy w/your service and want to get out to try something new and hopefully make a lil'more dough for the family. In 8yrs in this community, i've never known anyone to openly discuss getting out for airlines w/o separation paperwork filed.

Caveat: this is not the case in my single-seat world.

Retiree or separatee... it is discussed in the healthy manner that it should be... where intelligent pilots and officers weigh the pros and the cons... and make informed decisions. As someone who went to the airlines and then returned (twice), I was often in these conversations.

If your community doesn't tolerate that, and the CC allows retribution for it, that's a shame.

I had my retirement papers in and was scolded for talking airlines while I was sitting Top 3 at the Ops Desk. CC thought it was bad for morale and would taint the B Course studs. There was a whole slew of us in those conversations in 2012/13. Since then 2/3 of those involved in those conversations have since retired/separated and been hired at a major.

I'd be willing to bet in today's Big Blue Mother Air Force this type of response from leadership is more common than not. Regardless I couldn't be happier with this side of the fence. The grass is much, much greener.
