Military to Wide body?

RSR13,
When you are hired, you are at the BOTTOM, disregarding your's class seniority by age or SSAN. Seniority is everything, what you did the day before means NOTHING. Embrace it.
There is NO way, in any scenario you'll get a Whale as a new hire unless you are hired at Atlas and maybe not there.

Hey all, first time poster but long time stalker. Couldn't find anything on this, but heard rumors and from reading some posts' I found elsewhere that some military pilots can go straight into wide body aircraft in the airlines (i.e. 757, 767, 777) providing you've had experience with heavies? Any truth to this?

767's.
But keeping it specific to Atlas, EVERYBODY getting hired gets to fly a "wide body". Doesn't matter if it's mil or civ background.

Atlas, Kalitta, Southern Air for example, everybody will fly a heavy. At a passenger airline odds are pretty low (likely zero) that a new-hire will hold a heavy...since they pay significantly better than narrowbodies they are more popular with those old-hires who have the seniority to pick.

FedEX new hires have gone to MD-11, 777, and A300 right out of indoc. Some of the -11 classes were set up to place guys with previous experience in that type of flying. For instance, they opened a class one week that was all MD-11...selected who they wanted for that jet. The following week another class came with different jets. Once a guy hits the property, however, seniority rules. Many how went to WBs at FedEx have subsequently been displaced during excess bids.

The airlines don't care what your prior job was. You hold whatever's available when it's your turn to bid. Guys ask if having an XYZ type rating or experience will improve your odds at a major. Short answer? No. They'll train you in whatever assignment you get. You could have 10 A320 typed guys and 10 737 typed guys and the bids available are only S80's and 767's. That's why they don't care what you're current in.
AA had lots of guys get MIA 767 as their first assignment. Hasn't happened in awhile as the fleet gets drawn down.
Most AA new hires now getting the A320 with the 737 coming in second most common. For awhile the S80 slots were a lot of the draw. That seems to have cooled off recently.
