Too bad it's not an AGR position. I bet you'd have plenty of applicants knocking down the door.

Ha. Valid!

Is there actually any legitimate reason for the whole art system to exist rather than increase agr positions... Other than saving money? Ability to work a particular job longer or to quit at any time?

But given that the 38 portion of it is mostly part timers, sounds like it could be a heck of a deal if you want to live in the area and don't desire the airlines. I like the idea of a part time CC, we need to get more of that back in the Guard.
We've been at Langley for almost ten years now. The relationship between the two wings is good, and nearly all the RegAF leadership positions are held by people who "grew up" with TFI at either Langley, Elmo, or Hollomon. They have a much better understanding of the challenges our part-time force faces than did previous leaders. It's working...I wouldn't let the fact we're in a Classic Association keep someone from applying.

Is this that pesky airline hiring wave decimating the AFRES/ANG ranks thing again?....
Who aspires to an OSS/DO? Yuck. Another airfield management meeting, hooray! That job sucked when the airlines weren't hiring.

SteveA,

Good job in making your case and presenting the job as you see it. Hopefully you guys will get someone who can do the job, and more importantly, wants the job.

I'm sure it's different in the guard/reserve but I remember active duty OSS was for folks who did not want to be in the squadron and/or squadron problem children. Of course, there were a few who just wanted to "get away".

Did you ever spend any time in the Guard? If your only experience is Active Duty then I can understand the negative comments. However, if someone bailed off Active Duty prior to getting their 20 in this could be a great opportunity to get that retirement (and most importantly medical) at age 60. Good flying job with a great bunch of guys, minimal BS, and a great location.
