I do not think BOG will ever be over, history has shown it is always necessary. I don't think this could ever change. Maybe robots to replace people, but it will still be BOG.
Current F35 cost is not far from current fighters being built. Rhinos are not much cheaper by the time you add the cost of the motors and AESA RADAR they are pretty close. The advertised cost is without motors and the old RADAR.
I doubt any production line for an currently flown fighter or attack plane could be opened and produce units at 25mil. There would be upgrades driving costs up. Money has been spent and set aside, we are affording it.
While things could be different with the F35, it is what the tax payers ordered; like it or not. Requirements were levied and LM produced based on those requirements. Doing a one size fits all will make a jack of all trades master of none, again it was a requirement. Some of the issues have been brought up in here already, there are others.
