Cargo handling ops can be hazardous to the airplane's health. How long does it take to do a control check?
According to my buddy, nobody in his unit has ever heard raising the elevator for clearance. And he said that they didn't need to do it for this on or off load.

The idea of an ERO is to get the cargo out and airborne as soon as possible.

Its kind of like the same reason why you don't do a flight control check during a touch and go. You just landed. They were working. You *supposedly* have not done anything to the aircraft to necessitate a flight control check ... or anything else on a before takeoff checklist.

Agree, you just landed. Plus, even the biggest wall-wall cargo I've ever flown, we didn't need to raise the elevator for. If they were on a dirt strip and the fork lift load was bouncing, maybe. But even with the yoke in the resting/full forward position the trailing edge of the elevators is above the top of the ramp. Always heart breaking for the families.
