What are you talking about? As AGRs, we are on military status 24/7 just like regAF. Ever heard "at the commander's discretion"? As such, we are expected to attend the UTA weekends and scheduled annual tour dates, if the unit schedules them that way (which is the traditional way). Other units that work under a RUTA scheduling model (like mine), we only have to attend to two or so MUTAs (mandatory UTAs), since the rest of the UTA periods are burned month long at the TR's discretion.
Attending MUTAs is hardly an imposition since those are the few where everybody is in town and thus makes for an awesome time at and after work.

I am sure it depends on the unit, but most AGR's are required to attend UTA's unless excused by their CC, just like anyone else. It's ironic, but as a full-timer, it's not easy to be excused from drill because you're the one providing support/training for the traditionals.
