What I'm saying is that the blustering about 'could have been a shoot down per ROE' is just that.....blustering.
I don't know the current ROE in the AOR (nor do I even claim to know the past ROE for such a weapons platform like a DDG obviously) but somehow I seriously doubt that the rhetoric is spot on and accurate from Secretary Kerry.
My $1 bet is that everything went down exactly as scripted in the big picture. A many others have said here - -nothing new here. It is just a chance to talk big on TV and manufacture a platform for some chest thumping on the world stage.

Right. Because no one else has cameras, no one we did it too would publicly protest, and nobody...not even the UK Guardian or other major EU news source...would dare publish the pics. Shut up please, or else show me pics of US mil. aircraft doing this "all the time" in the last 8 years to a non-allied nation's warship in the last 8 years...

We do it to show support for our allies in the region, makes them feel better.
Russia doesn't have a really good reason to come all the way over here (unless they're signed a mutual defense pact with Canada that I don't know about).
