Default Air Force vision requirements

I am hearing mixed things about the vision. Does anyone what the vision requirements are for a mobility pilot? Some say 20/70 uncorrected and others say 20/20 uncorrected. and some say 20/400 And does anyone know what the astigmatism requirements are? I'm 20/100 with an astigmatism of 2.0 diopeters. Am I disqualified? I'm looking to join. Could I get lasik or PRK? I hold a first class medical and wear corrective lenses

You might have to talk to a recruiter on this one, because medical retirements change every year. I can tell you that it is NOT 20/20 uncorrected, I know plenty of guys that wore glasses coming in. It used to be you could only get PRK if you were already in the Air Force, not sure if they backed off that yet.

Would I be able to give them a call and ask or would I need to go in and talk one on one? Closest recruiting station is 50 miles away. I asked a guy on yahoo and he said that max astigmatism was 1.00 diopter but his reference source was from 2003! I have a feeling that changed in he last 13 years

You should be fine with your current vision, although with acuity >20/70 I would expect to need a waiver, which shouldn't be a huge issue. DO NOT self disqualify, make the flight docs DQ you!

Call the nearest office and ask to talk to, or for the number to the nearest "Officer Assescions Recruiter." Any other recruiter is likely to tell you your vision is bad and try to get you to enlist in a different job.

Remember, OFFICER ACCESSIONS RECRUITER!

Ok thanks! Do you know anything about the astigmatism? It's been a dream to fly for the AF

Yeah you're right let them do their job if they dq me I can always try and get a waiver my vision might actually be netter than 20/100. Seems to have gotten better.

According to that chart you might be good, I believe you still need a Flying Class I to go to UPT. It's 8 years old so you'll need to check with an official source. There's also been times that something is waiverable but the particular command (Reserve, Guard) has more restrictive guidance for initial waivers.

Ok thanks. I'll try and get in contact with a officer recruiter and do the best I can to get in. Would good grades, a lot of flight hours and go ethic help any with a waiver? If you look at AFROTC it says vision can be 20/200?
