Good stuff. I had a similar experience--while I was still on AD, the best use I found of the Aero Club was when I had my own airplane, using my club membership as entrée to base my airplane on the AFB. Yes, there was some ass pain involved with doing that, but having the plane on base was MUCH closer to both home and (obviously) work than other airports, and I had excellent facilities at a bargain price (exception was AVGAS--solution to that was to buy my gas elsewhere).

I lament the gradual decline (and, sad to say IMO, inevitable demise) of Aero Clubs; but, as you & others have said, it's self-inflicted....
