Default Expenses and Taxes

can you (legally, of course) deduct expenses from exceeding your accepted fares when deviating?

I can't find any info relating to this on the pilot-type tax websites.

Any help is appreciated.

If you can't deduct commuting expenses (It's been a while since I commuted, but I don't think you can,) I would guess, No.

Come on, all you commuting types, help the guy out.

The difference here is that you're not commuting to your domicile, you're commuting to another location, so it might be viewed differently by the IRS.

Yes its deductable. You commute to your tax home. Commuting is not tax deductable. Going over your travel bank is a travel expense and Deductable. Any travel expense not covered by your employer is deductable.
