Apparently Ramsey has never traveled (especially international) where you need to rent a car or it is unsafe to carry large amounts of cash around.

Ramsey has some good points but "no credit cards" and "buy a house with cash" are not amongst them.

Great post by C130J.

I have the Delta Sky Miles Amex Gold card and the Chase Marriott Visa ( black ). Those two work really well for me. Definitely need one with no foreign transaction fees in our line of work, which is the Chase card.

Personal circumstances; buying habits; and travel habits certainly dictate which of the reward cards are best for any one given individual.

In the 90s I had a Ford Visa card which I used quite often. Moving back to the States I used the points for something like $1500 off a brand new F-150.

Oh, and why assume someone doesn't pay off their credit card bill in full every month labbats?

Get $50 cash back for each friend you invite who gets and uses Chase Freedom®

INVITE FRIENDS NOW

Last day to invite is December 08, 2014

1. Invite your friends to carry Chase Freedom
Enter as many friends' names as you want. You'll get rewarded for the first 10 who get and use the card.1
2. We'll offer them $200 cash back
Every friend who is approved for the card will get $200 cash back as a welcome bonus after spending $500 within the first 3 months from account opening!
3. You can get $50 cash back for each friend … up to $500!
You get $50 cash back for up to 10 friends after they make their first purchase by March 18, 2015.

If anyone is interested let me know. 1% cash back on everything, higher percent back on 3 rotating categories. I switched to chase after getting screwed by discover 5 years ago. Great anti fraud department. I am happy with them.

Dave owns a Citation 650. We've often wondered if the pilots are paying cash for fuel and maintenance....

+ another for Marriott black, If you are looking for hotel points, and don't mind being married to Marriott (points don't expire, unlike Hilton)
If you want flexibility, go with AMEX

Consider the Ritz Carlton visa if you're in the Marriott system. You get marriott points and and Gold status. $395/yr but you get a $300 statement credit for anything airline related (inflight wifi, meals, etc). Read the boiler plate for other perks

Sorry for the late reply. I just read this.

All I can go on are my own experiences and I've always been awful with saving as has my wife. Since we took the Dave Ramsey class together and cut up the credit cards and started budgeting it has made all the difference.

If you have the ability to never run up a credit card then you obviously don't need advice from Dave Ramsey. However his class fixed my finances, marriage and ability to plan out my future. The freedom from debt is worth far more than hotel points and airline miles to me.

As I said earlier... best of luck regardless of your decision.
