Over Age 65 FO
 

Can a commercial pilot, over age 65, legally fly, internationally under Part 135, as a First Officer?

Is it legal under 135?

Is it legal under ICAO?

The rules are clear about 121 but no so concerning 135.

Yes as long as the Capt is Under Age 6o.

One of the crew Capt or FO take your pick, must be under 60 to fly internationally

Captain must be under age 60. It is really just who ever is listed on all the paper work must be under 60. Does not matter who sits in what seat.

I disagree...see my reply to your other thread of the same topic. ICAO doesn't care. The FAA doesn't care. However, some of the ICAO countries into which you will operate do not allow 65 year old FO's. ICAO recommends that the SIC is not over 65 then defers to each ICAO "state" for the individual rule. Example...Bermuda and much of the Carribbean says no...Canada and England say its OK. These are all ICAO countries, but they each have their own rules.

The Caribbean will allow a pilot to be over 60 regardless of which seat he is in so long as another pilot is in the other seat who is under 60.

There's no age limit in the U.S. for anything but 121. That means as long as you can pass your medical you can fly indefinately under 135, I know several people over 65 flying 135. Currently I have an FO that at 69 years old is just starting his flying career.

That is my companies understanding as well. On international trips Captain must be under 60, FO dosen't matter. It is a recomendation by ICAO that many countries enforce. It is just easier not to have to worry about what country enforces it and what country dosen't. After Avjet was fined in Europe for having a Captain over age 60 most Southern California 135 on demand companies have moved in that direction. I realize that the rule is more complex then I am making it out to be be but my company has tried to simplify it, as many other companies have as well.
