Your view on a Cessna 340??

Default Your view on a Cessna 340??

Id like to hear everyones view on these aircraft. reliable? operating costs? performance? Thanks

The 340A with a RAM Conversion is a pretty sweet ride, and alittle faster (5-7 kts) than a 414 with the same RAM Conversion.

335 HP engines, VG Kit (increase MAX weight), etc.

You're looking at 200-210kts (depending on altitude), 40 gals/hr at cruise, and depending what fuel tank config you have, a 3-4 hr plane with an hour reserve.

If you're planning on carrying more than just your fam (wife/2 kids) in the plane, it might be better to look a 414 (tip tank model). You get roughly same performance with a larger (wider) cabin.

$400/hr is a good ballpark number.

What's your price range?

Sounds like a pretty good fit for what Im looking to use it for. 2-3 hour flights with 4 or so people. Whats are the major differences between 340 and 414? Looking to spend no more than 200k

Mainly the difference between the 340/340A and the 414 (tip tank model) is the fuselage dimensions.

The 414 is a wider and longer airplane, the company I worked for looked at both and the cabin dimensions were what made us by the 414. I would carry myself and up to 5 adults comfortably and be able to go 3 hrs with an hour reserve.

There are a number of nice ones on the market right now and I would def look at the 414, just because it's a more comfortable airplane.

I notcied its pretty close to TBO. How much does that usually cost for a 414?

You'd probably be looking at $100K for Factory Re-man's (installed). I think you could make an offer of 85-90% of asking price

Fly it for a year and then do overhauls. It has strong running engines and I babied them while I flew it. I had planned on flying up to 100 hrs past TBO as long as the compressions remained the same (which they had been doing for the past 200 hrs).

It's really not (fly cheap...lol, nothing in aviation is cheap!), but realistically you could purchase said airplane and have a 250-275,000 airplane (with fresh engines, low time props, etc) and only be in it 130-140,000 right now and start putting away for overhauls.

I think 421 engines go for 120-130,000/factory reman installed. It's a good bit more than the TSIO-520's.

The place I work will do your 421 engines for maybe a tad under 200k for both. OUUUUCHHH!
