Pardon TallFlyer. Chalk it up to a momentary lapse of judgment due to the large raise he just got . Great Lakes has a dubious (poor) reputation- do yourself a favor and avoid that alternative. Ameriflight and Cape Air have decent reputations on these boards and many instructor jobs will take low-ME candidates and gradually put them in the twin if they are good in the single. The other thing you could do is get your MEI and by the time that is accomplished, you will have plenty of hours for most regional jobs.

Great Lakes also has a 15 month training contract you have to sign. So there won't be any "sticking it out for a few months and leaving." I also should mention I don't have a CFI and don't want to spend the money right now to get it.

I tell my closest friends to learn to flight instruct because it makes you a better person in about 49 ways. But if you really wish not to instruct, how about a block of multi engine time? You might have to unload trucks at Home Depot for 5 years like the rest of us for it, but it will get you what you need.

I agree with you 100 percent and I do plan to get my CFI eventually. But if I can get to the regionals without it right now, I'll wait on getting it. As for buying a block of multi time: I'd rather try to find someone that will pay me to fly, instead of the other way around But if it comes down to that, I'll take out a loan and go that route.

Disclaimer: I hearby do not support the poverty level wages at Great Lakes.
15 months is the old contract. They aren't going to hold a dripping wet commercial pilot there for only a year. They will hold him for 3 and if he leaves early they come after him and he could get blackmarked for future employers. Don't go to great lakes. The short answer is it doesn't matter whether you have the money to get the cfi or not. Without 500 hours under your belt its almost impossible to get a commercial job. the cfi will pay for itself in what 2 or 3 students?

Default Low Time Multi Jobs

I never said Key Lime is a good job, but it's true that there's no posted multi limit in a glass jet if you get the DoJet.

There's a reason there's no posted multi min though. Remember that.

Any flying job you take and leave before 1-2 years will not look favorably on your resume. Even if the job is hell, it still hurts to have short employment stints on your resume. If you're on the fence about working for a low-paying company, I would steer clear.

I'll add my input:

You don't actually need the 50 multi anymore to get hired. I was told at my American Eagle interview that they'll let you start training with only 25 multt.
