Bear in mind that if you're a "copilot" on one of weather mod's Cheyennes or other light twins, neither the aircraft certification nor the regulations under which the flight is operated require a second pilot, meaning you're in a single pilot cockpit with the other pilot manipulating the controls. Not loggable.

Large drop zones such as DeLand and Z-Hills look for more experienced pilots, and don't fly single Cessnas. They fly twin otters and skyvans. Drop zones operating single engine piston equipment tend to be smaller DZ's that are usually only open on weekends, or by appointment during the week. Many slow down drastically during the winter.

Right, but it if you're sitting right seat in a KA or Cheyenne or whatever they have, that still goes toward Total Time and ME time .. just not PIC or even SIC if I'm understanding correctly. Also, maybe if you're with them for awhile you can work your way into the left seat.

There's a big grey area on just logging it as TT. I did that when I was a King Air and PC12 FO, and so far no one in the pt 91 or 135 world cares. However, an airline might be more critical of it. So what career path you plan to take night influence your decision.

wx mod is an option, however, the CEO of the company is a UND alum and hires directly from UND as a paid internship for the summer. If you can get hired outside of just ND area that may be a possibility. I know Wx Mod Inc has stations all over the world. When I was looking at doing wx mod as the internship you had to have completed two courses wx mod specific and the company would take in about 10-12 students every summer.

They posted on climbto350 looking for a King Air and 340 FO in California and Idaho for the winter season. So I think it's outside of the UND program. However, like they said since it's part 91, idk how logging of time would work so it still might not be worth it.

No, it doesn't.

You don't understand the logging of time correctly.

You'd have to be there a LONG time to work over into the left seat, if you're a 200 or 300 hour pilot. Especially given the few hours that they tend to fly. It's not a time building job, and it's not really a loggable job as a copilot.

If your flight time isn't pilot in command or second in command, how can it be "total time?" It's not. You can't log category or class, either; it's not time you can log if you're not either a required crew member, or sole manipulator of the controls. The folks at weather mod will tel you differently, but can't back it up with regulation or chief legal counsel letters of interpretation, which clearly show otherwise.

No grey area. It is absolutely not loggable under the FAR's.
