I have to agree with mantis on this one,

I've said it many times before on here. It's not worthless time. Been involved in banner towing operation since I was 13 years old. We have NEVER had a former pilot not make it on to an airline/cargo/corporate job if that's what they wanted to do. I cannot think of one single former pilot that has not been very successful in moving on. I myself flew corporate, charter, and now Part 121 Capt. Never held me back. I'm still heavily involved in the family banner operation. I would say that both CFI and Towing have their merits. This year we actually have a few University CFI that are finishing up their hours to get to the airlines by towing for us. I think it's great to diversify. If you happen to be at one of those big schools and the summers are slow, if you can get away for three months maybe think about doing both. I can promise you will be a better CFI after a summer or two actually flying a plane yourself.

Side note: we had a CFII this year who wasn't able to complete our banner course. The hang up:crosswind landings. His response was I don't know why I'm having such a hard time with this, I LOVE TO TEACH CROSSWINDS....I asked how much he actually physically did the landings and how much time was spent talking through them. I can talk you through all kinds of things...that maybe I can't physically do myself. I suppose the point here is don't let anyone talk you out of doing a particular job just because they know nothing about it or just don't approve. There are lots of opportunities out there to build time and skill. Banners, Pipeline Patrol, Instructing, Jumpers, it's all good time. Speaking from experience enjoy the time you have now doing those jobs....they most likely will be the most fun jobs you'll ever have in aviation. Looking out the window at FL350 gets boring pretty fast..

Already did my time draggin rags, moved on to 121. Not a single person even mentioned that the majority of my hours were from banner towing. Although some of the former CFI's in my class had a hell of a time in the sim, I'll tell ya that (no correlation at all, just sayin).

My point being, there are no shortage of narrow minded people out there telling you that banner towing is a good way to rack up worthless flight time. They're full of it. I know because I went through it, and some of the guys I know who are going the teaching route are struggling for hours. Where I towed, getting a day off that week was the issue. More hours than most guys could handle. But thanks for taking the time to call a random internet dude "honey" at 5 am.
Oh relax "Precious"

It's total time. That's it. No X-country, no instrument.
Not worthless (jeeze you're dramatic) just not that relevant (except TT)

Now lighten up.

Hey pal,

plenty of cross country time to be had banner towing. The feds don't require a landing for cross country time being used towards your ATP. Just gotta fly at least 50 miles away.

Have a fantastic day my buddy!!!!!!
