You can (and should) advertise yourself as a commercial pilot providing pilot services for compensation. If you have an airplane, then I will fly it for you. This is general pt 91 flying, doesn't matter if you are flying a GV for Nike, or ferrying a 150 for a new owner.

What you can't do is advertise yourself as a commercial operator providing air transportation (plane, pilot, fuel, ect.) to anyone and everyone who has the money. Providing air transportation to the general public requires a 135 certificate.

If you are providing scenic flights, you need a Letter of Authorization from the local FSDO.

"Rides" aren't as easy as they used to be - though I'd bet I have many local illegal competitors.
