Default first class medical lapse

Just curious if anyone has let their 1st class lapse into the following month due to time constraints and the fact that you won't be flying until much later in the month. Any grief from your airline? I get reminders every day from FDX (and I'm getting my medical tomorrow) but what if I let it lapse and go NOQ? Is it a big deal?

I do my first class medical the first or second day of the 7th month every time it comes due.

Of course as a part 91 captain, I don't ever have to worry about dequaling since I only need a 2nd class medical anyway. (Company poliy is for usto keep valid 1st class medicals.)

Most airlines have policy that your medical must be submitted by a set date- At ACA/IDE it was the 25th of the due month. If you didn't have your paperwork submitted by that date, the company could remove you from your awarded schedule without pay and you got a see me note from the CP...

Don't know how other companies work, but I'd say that in the 121 world, you can't "play the calendar" like some 91 guys do.

Yeah, they usually want a copy of the new one by the 20th of the month.

Your notification reads in part:
Your medical certificate expires on XXFEB08. Enter the new medical in VIPS no later than the earlier of... a). 48 hours prior to the end of your due month; or [earlier if you have a end-of-month or carryover trip]
Mine lapsed because of a back episode, so I know that the notifications stop at the end of your due month. The overdue notice comes from your ACP/FOA when they call to hear your story. So how 'big a deal' it is, is probably directly proportional to your tap dancing skills .

Thanks, FBK. So that means even if I had the whole following month off for vacation, I'd still get a call from the ACP. nice to know...
