All,
As someone who just finished his last round of chemo for colon cancer I want to encourage you to get screened. It's a day out of your life, but colon cancer is extremely preventable if it is caught early. As it is, I got lucky and mine was caught relatively early, but chemo was recommended to be safe. Believe, if I could've avoided the chemo, I would have.
Basic criteria-
Age 40 if it runs in your family
Age 50 as a rule.
Recurring colonoscopies done based on results, polyps found, etc.
The prep isn't fun- get a good book and lots of soft paper.
The procedure is not tremendously uncomfortable and you'll spend the rest of the day being dopey, sleepy, happy, or any other dwarf based on you personality. You will need a ride home.
Check with your insurance provider to see how they pay, in office, etc.
Believe me, it can save your life, or least save you a lot of grief.
