Default Common causes for losing a 1st class medical?

Just wondering what people see as common reasons that people loose their first or second class medical. I would think as you get older that it is harder to keep but obviously there are guys doing it up to and even past 65. So do you know many people that have had to leave the life and find other jobs because they can't hold their medical anymore?

Probably misspelling.

You must be a brilliant and exciting man, being able to find a missused word and an extra "O" on the internet. The world is safer with people like you on the job

You are correct, it is lose not loose. I have some other random ramblings that you can proof read for me if you have the time. You are probably a joy to hang out with. Thanks for a constructive response.

Sorry if I ruffled any feathers, just let it roll off your back. I would postulate high blood pressure as another culprit.

I'm sorry that was funny.

Since they don't test for lack of a sense of humor and spelling, it's important to realize that pilots reflect the general population in terms of health. Blood pressure is common symptom, but the cause can have roots in several diseases - just like the general population.

The FAA is very reasonable about blood pressure meds. Anyone who is having a problem with the FAA and BP:

1. Has something else seriously wrong (for which the high BP is just a symptom).

2. Has messed up the paperwork.

3. Waited for the FAA to deny a medical. If your BP is getting up there you need to deal with it BEFORE the FAA gets unhappy with it.

Too many guys are afraid to treat their blood pressure because they imagine the FAA grounding them. The opposite is the truth. Get it treated, line up the paperwork and save both your life and your medical. The Feds in 2011 want to see you managing risk factors.

I strongly urge anyone in this position to work with whatever aeromedical service they have. It is not complex, and hypertension can be treated without missing any work (by starting the meds over vacation), barely a raised eyebrow from the AME at your next medical and a perfectly normal medical certificate at the end of the visit.

Depends what kind. Some they just want to see a full cardiovascular evaluation and that is fine if the cardiologist says it isn't a problem.
