Default DC Depression HIMS Review

I'm wondering if anyone has gone through this process recently and can give me an idea of what to expect. After being treated for depression I'm off all medications and in full remission for over 6 months. I submitted my medical earlier this year with a letter from my psychiatrist stating my remission and off all medication and FAA came back asking for the HIMS evaluation. I did the HIMS and everything went very well (HIMS psych supported the opinion of my personal doc). The paperwork was submitted and I eventually got the letter from the FAA that it has been referred to Dr. Chesanow in DC. That was over a month ago.

Does anyone know what the current backlog is for this kind of thing? Even if you haven't been through this exactly I'm just curious if Dr. Chesanow takes 2 months, 6 months, a year, etc. Nobody seems to be able to even give me a ballpark guess and any info. would be appreciated.

Thanks!

^^^ +1

I imagine the Special Issuance for depression is similar to my experience with pilots getting an SI for substance abuse / addiction, another psychiatric waiver. Most pilots in that situation wait about 3 months, give or take, depending on the FAA backlog and their personal situation.

Be patient, but I know it's hard.

Best wishes.

Just to clarify the timeline for a reply from Washington, is it 3 months from initial submission to Oklahoma City or 3 months from when Washington receives the paperwork from Oklahoma City ?
My paperwork sat in Oklahoma City for about 5 weeks before it was forwarded to Washington. So am I looking at another 3 months on top of that ?

Good question. I would be interested in hearing about this as well. Everything I've heard indicates DC takes 3 months minimum after they receive it but would greatly appreciate if anyone has first hand experience they can share.

about a month in OKC then 1 - 3 months in DC. All 1st class go to DC. most 2nd and 3rd can be done by OKC.

Thanks for taking the time to give this information.

It has been around 6 weeks since DC received my case so I would expect to post an update here for others in the next 6 weeks or so if that helps anyone.
