MB, I don't think this makes much difference to most folks on this forum. Although it could quite conceivably result in increased fees for those of us who require 1st or 2nd class physicals. Though I think you're still getting by with a 3rd class, right?

While not the intention of the legislation, that will likely be the net result. In order to stimulate aviation it must be affordable to many thousands of pilots. That hasn't been the case since the early eighties. Until someone builds a descent and certified airplane that sells in the 30>35K range, hobby flying will continue its death spiral. I will acknowledge that flight training seems to be picking up somewhat, though no where near that required to grow aviation significantly. This legislation will benefit a few folks, though will likely prove to offer little positive impact.

Lowering the medical bar won't help that, however, and there are already plenty of people driving cars who shouldn't be behind the wheel. Putting them in the cockpit simply because they have a driver's license isn't a step forward.

This only benefits the old farts over 40. Instead of seeing an ame every 2 yrs, it's just a "state licensed m.d" every 4 yrs. on top of that every 2 years online training for everyone not to mention a record must be made in your logbook of both requirements. Rather see an ame every 5 yrs if your under 40. Just easier in a way.
