Not sure if you took your checkride or not A320, but I failed my PPL as well. When I took my instrument checkride I was nervous as hell, but passed with no problem. Everyone gets nervous about these things. And if they say they don't they are full of crap.

Just passed my ATP after failing August 1, 2008. Also failed the EMB-120 type at the same time, but I never intend to complete that.

Never failed (so far) been doing them since my commercial in 1970. Maybe been lucky with my examiners. Typed DC9, MD80, 737NG, A340, A330 and Cessna 150,

Failed CFI ride. During interviews usually the interviewer does not go beyond that. If they did I would say that I failed, retested and passed. I wouldn't blame it on the examiner.

I wouldn't worry about it much. You could probably fail any pilot at any time if you really wanted.

I agree. I have taken 10 check rides (4 you could say where 141 stage checks but treated as checkrides) and have never busted an oral or a ride. However, I could point things out on each ride that I could have been failed for. Did the examiner notice? Maybe. But either way, I know I will be taking many MANY more rides and there is bound to be one I'll bust. Nature of the game. So I guess I subscribe to the "three types of people" theory.

Next up is probably ATP in about 3 years.
