Why the heck are we hiring 10 new hires for the 200 we had 22 reserve lines last month and 10 more saab guys. I wonder if crew planning randomly says we need a class

The "big announcement" on Wednesday was suppose to answer this question. That day has come and gone, so yeah maybe they are just trying to keep themselves busy.

Patience boys... patience. The 200 vacancies can mean only 2 things. They forecast attrition from the 200 FO ranks and need to backfill. Or, we're getting more 200s. But the last theory may not make too much sense, because there were only 2 upgrades. So, I put more weight on FO movement. It's definitely not random acts by planning, since training costs the company tons of money. There is indeed something big going on, regardless of when this announcement is going to take place.

I am gonna keep optimistic and hope we get more 200's because then its a win win for everbody, movement in the FO ranks and more upgrades for people who have the time and of course for those captains at the bottom of the list it could mean no ready reserve?

I don't know about that. For one this one pretty much balances the FO to CA ratio (96:94 instead of 94:84), also there were 23 Reserve lines for captains last month as well. I just can't see justifying additional upgrades... of any magnitude... just for FO movement. Also everyone here knows how little reserves have been getting used so I think something is definitely going on beyond movement. The new airplanes one is a common one but I've also heard the where getting a DTW 200 base one... which I think may make more sense. I mean split that reserve list on either side in half and you have a pretty balanced number of reserves compared to lines. Of course this is just me blowing off steam and I might be and probably am entirely wrong.

Something big is going on behind the scenes here, boys and girls. I have a feeling Mesaba is about to become bigger than it ever has been. Who would have thought Mesaba would be the place to be a couple years ago. I just feel lucky to be here.

Gotta agree with bored on this one.

If you're assuming we're getting more airframes, the CA upgrades indicate which type we might get. Look at the last two awards: a large number of 900 CA's... only two 200 CA's. FO's only indicate where planning thinks future CA upgrades will come FROM, not to.

I got so burned out on it, that's why I am eager for the airline hiring to resume. Money (higher pay in mgmt) can't buy joy.
My screen name is sarcastic. I've also been a part mgmt, though I'm currently not. Can't say I'm the biggest fan of NWA mgmt... but that basically goes without saying among the redtail pilot groups.
