I scanned back a couple of pages to look for some answers, hopefully someone can clue me in.
3. What times do people have when interviewing?
(I'm sitting on 725/130 with 75 in CRJ-200)
Some applicants had less than 400 hours with no airline experience. I don't really think they are looking for a specific number. Just the right person they believe is trainable to Mesaba's standards.

Closing Date: October 13, 2008 0800 (CDT)
Award Date: October 13, 2008 1700 (CDT)
SF3 Class Size: 8 New Hire, 10 Upgrade/Initial
SF3 Class Dates: October 20, 2008 Indoctrination Training, October 23, 2008 Upgrade, October 27, 2008 Initial
I'm starting to wonder, what if there really isn't any sort of announcement? Of course there isn't much movement right now, but besides the Saab vacancy in 08-15, the new hires match up to the upgrades. I would think this hiring boom is for an increase in flying. I noticed the -900 starts to TPA and VPR in November. That's a good start.
2) When are you required to give up your seniority number if you are employed by another 121 carrier? Do you have to do this before Mesaba even calls to tell you that you've been selected for a new hire?
Rep at ERAU Prescott's career fair yesterday said you have to give up your number on day 1 of ground school.
This may be a dumb question, but are you going from the 900 to the saab to upgrade sooner? If so, is the upgrade much longer if you want to stay and upgrade on the 900? And lastly, how does Mesaba determine when a Saab Captain can switch to the 900, vs an FO on the 900 upgrading? All seniority?
Thanks in advance.
sorry it took me so long to get back at ya but i think the guys answered the questions you had.im on a trip and these great hotels dont always have internet.

But with all the LCAs, sim instructors, and flight attendants we're hiring? I guess I'd be really suprised if they were doing all of this for "normal movement."
We're not interviewing, hiring and running classes in the way we would be for the last 4 deliveries we're expecting. It's so painfully obvious something more is happening. My guess is that it has something to do with the merger and for obvious reasons, can't talk about it until the deal is done.

i agree, just meeting dleta staffing models, increase of flying, imo no more birds
Advance planning often results in short term over-staffing. One airplane arriving per month means training ten (perhaps 20 with upgrades) pilots that month. If five, ten or fifteen airplanes arrive in a compressed time period (possibly early 2009) , it means up to 300 training events would be required. Staffing (hiring) , equipping (new CRJ900 sim), and upgrades need to start at least three months in advance.
Companies don't incur these short term over-staffing and hiring / training costs unless there is a good reason.
