Oh fun doesn't even come close. You know what it is like to slug it out in the summer heat at 12,000, in the bumps, crossing the same line of weather 5 times a day. Then slug it out in the winter, IMC for 3 solid days, ice, blowing snow and gusty crosswinds on 75 foot wide runways that are 5000 feet long. The Saab will make a pilot out of you, and quick.
This is why I chose the Saab!
I just found out I was originally on the -200 but because of the temporary hiataus on -200 training got offered either a -900 a few months down the road or a Saab on August 13th. Saab here I come!

Anyone else in the Aug. 13th class?
Good move. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure the 900 is a truly pleasant airplane to fly, and you probably won't have to buy as many pilot shirts as frequently if you are on the 900!
However, seniority is more important than anything else. Always take the first class you can, unless you have family issues or something else more important to you in the long run.
Also, you'll earn more as an FO in the Saab.
The true upside for you however, is you will have time to enjoy your job before you have to summer fly in the Saab!
Hey, I have about 20 lbs. to lose and looking forward to the Saab sauna helping me out in that qwest! Maybe I will even get IOE in Memphis to really accelerate it--I just have to remember to bring about a gallon of water per day.
It's legal so it must be safe! "Spent" is the word I like to use after a 3-day like that.
You are correct on the pay. Except year 1 FO at Mesaba will make $22.81/hr.

Sign me the hell up.

Yeah, that's right baby...I'm a Hooker, too.
As a new hire in the Saab, just a couple of questions. I assume that ground is everyday in the classroom, studying, tests, the whole college thing I'm used to. Whats the schedule like for the sims, with studying, actually being in the classrooms and sims? I've got my basic IFR experience in a 172 and the ol Piper Seminole so do you get an advanced dose of flying IFR? I'm just trying to gauge what I'm going to be up against once I'm there

Sim schedules suck!!! j/k It really wasn't too bad. 8 sim lessons then a PC then LOFT. My first three had shows at 9am, 9am, 9am, [2 day break] then swung to a 1am, 11pm, 5am, 2am, [2 day break] and finally an 8am. PC was at 10am, LOFT at 10am. I think we got the worst schedule. The others looked somewhat consistent as far as show times.
My sim schedule was 9pm-2am for the first couple then 5pm-10pm, Noon-5pm, 2 day break then back for 5am-10am twice, 9am-2pm and then the checkride 8am-2pm, LOFT was 5am-9am. Almost all your sim time will be in the clouds, mostly day and almost all the approaches will be down to about 50' above mins and just enough vis. Don't worry about that though, you don't have much time to worry about what is going on outside--just fly the instruments and work on your scan. The people who have trouble are the ones who fixate but the instructors are very good and will work through any issues you have. We only had one guy washout of the sim and he was a nervous wreck going in so have fun--when else do you get to play and $18.5 million video game
