If the staffing was simply for increased staffing due to Delta's request then Mesaba wouldn't have pulled people off the SAAB for the CRJ only to start hiring back into the SAAB a few months later. The merger was announced before they started pulling SAAB fo's for the 900. If Delta has just wanted increased staffing then they would have never done the SAAB transfers. Something was decided recently and thus the need to hire for all planes, including new FOs for the SAAB. If this is not the case there really is no logic in retraining SAAB FOs just to retrain them and then hire new people and train them for the SAAB. I'm not being overly optimistic, but no one has ever given me a good answer for why they did the SAAB transfers only to hire right back into the SAAB. The best answer I have heard is that new planes will be announced after the merger is officially started.
