Would it be better QOL to be on reserve in MSP or commute to say ATL if and when it opens or MEM for that matter? This would be for someone who would commute from Rapid City SD. 4-5 flts a day from RAP to MSP at a little over a hour flt ( all red tails ).
You would be on reserve for forever in msp probably. But the decision on to go to mem or dtw depends on if the commute would be easy enough to make the improved schedule worth it.

For me it is, so thats why I am DTW based.

I would say the MSP is generally very senior but I think it is gonna get to the point where all bases are gonna start slowing up to where everybody is gonna be where they are gonna be for a long time. Unless a aircraft order comes out, everybody is gonna sit where you are gonna sit. For the Saab right now its better to go to DTW or MEM. For the 200 you are stuck where you are stuck and well even moving up the list doesnt guarrentee flying. 900 is ok in all bases because right now its all about filling up for reserve spots. This is just my opinion and well there are alot of them on this forum. The key is come here and work hard and have some fun with good people and well if you are on reserve you might as well get youst to it for a bit and try to live in base. makes life easy. I feel bad for those who sleep in the airport on reserve because they cant afford a crashpad. my two cents.

See ya guys in the crew room.

Hey just curious how long are reserve times running in MSP, DTW, and MEM. How long is reserve on the -900 in MSP for example? How many people do they usually keep on reserve. Also, anyone have a scoop on what the aircraft will be assigned for the November 17th class?

Reserve times at this point are going to depend on what is going on. If we are getting more airplanes, its probably going to be less than 6 months. If they are just finishing up hiring for the last deliveries, then they are filling the ranks with people who will be on the bottom for awhile. MSP is usually senior, but new hires have got there from the start on all fleets. From what I have heard, there will be 2 saab classes a month for the rest of the year. As far as the jets, I am sure there will be more jet classes as well. You are probably holding your breathe just like everyone at the airline to see what happens post merger. The amount of time you will sit on reserve will depend on the outcome of the merger.

The powerpoint in the interview was a little outdated, but said you could expect to be elible depending on a number of other factors after 18 months. I'm sure with current trends that number will be increasing.

Seems to be a lot of questions about how long on reserve, and how quick to upgrade....reserve is all base and platform dependant.

for upgrading, I wouldn't expect any quick upgrades, they just awarded the 640ish guy upgrade, and there are now 1100 pilots on property. Plenty of the new hires from last year are now eligible and a few of us hired this year.

Is Mesaba hiring? Any chance of me getting hired in the near future? I have 660TT, 330ME, 350 Dual given, CFII, MEI. I'm getting really antsy to get out of the flight instructing world and in to the airlines, any suggestions?
