That's interesting. How did you get an interview but yet was turned down because you didn't have enough multi time?
I could see making a lateral move to another regional if they didn't have any advancement opportunities to a another aircraft and you also didn't have any desire to move on to the majors.

Why would a lateral move indicate no desire for the majors?

As for getting MSP in either of the aircraft, it depends on your seniority in your hire class (determined by age). They go down the list in your class and ask which base you want, depending on which bases have openings. However if you don't get your base of choice, you can bid what you want and likely get it before you get done with class. As for reserve times im not certain, i am a relatively new hire myself. Good luck!

But if you get the 200 your only option is the MSP... that depends on which class you are in if you are hired
Thank you! SO..if I got this right, the oldest in class gets to choose first. I am 26YOA. So you bid for base not by equipment? So I could put in a bid for MSP and Mesaba would assign me the aircraft? The way you wrote it, makes me a lot more optimistic then what i have read on other forums, I read FO's that have bid's in for MSP for MONTHS! It would be nice! I dont care equipment, actually I have been flying the EMB-145, all push button, automated airplane, so I would actually prefer the Saab cus I can actually use my brain, plus Saab has better QOL??

I am going to do a lateral move from Eagle to Mesaba. Currently have 50 people below me in a total pool of 2,600 pilots. THAT PUTS ME A THE LAST 2% OF THE SENIORITY LIST, which is pretty much scraping from the bottom of the barrel. Upgrade time is 10 years. how is a lateral move to Mesaba "indicate no desire to to go a major" I will make CA at Mesaba "much much" sooner than the 10 years at Eagle. Plus I am already at the bottom of the seniority bucket as it is. I dont figure the logic, please help me understand it.

You're assigned and airplane before groundschool. While you're there, you'll bid on the available positions that are left over in the vacancy you're hired into. In other words, you're competing for bases within your class and not anyone else. Once you're on the property you can crease your preference bid and get in line for the base you want.

THanks bored. I know your jumping from forum to forum helping me.

But honestly, will MSP be hard to get for at least several months?

Ya, sorry if that wasn't clear, but bored is right. Aircraft first, then base depending on what is open. But if you don't get what you want you might be able to get the base you want before your even done with training. A classmate of mine did just that. He got DTW and later wanted MEM, bid for it and got it by the end of training.

Flyboy has it right... every two weeks a vacancy comes out with the new available positions. So, every two weeks you'll have the opportunity to get the base you want. They'll show you in class, but basically you will rank your preferences and then each two weeks crew planning will "run the numbers" and if your seniority can hold the position you want as #1, you'll be awarded it. So... getting MSP could happen quickly as long as there are positions in MSP on your equipment and there is movement.

It totally depends on the plane. If you get the 200, well problem solved. The saab can be a bit of a wait as it took my friend over a year to get MSP and the 900, well Im sure others can be more help there on exact time but I would think it would take a few months.

It's hard to compare what happened last year to the current times. The vacancies and who gets them and in what order and time frame is incredibly dynamic and fluid. As long as there is movement from saab FOs to saab Ca, there will be lots of saab positions available in all bases. The same goes for the 200/900.
