Yeah it does kind of suck but it kind of makes sense in a way. Last year i got a buddy pass on U.S. Airways and i watched on two different occasions where the buddy was told that they may not have a seat and they went crazy on the gate agent. "my cousin said i got a seat in first class" and on and on. It was embarrassing. The worst thing was is this guy ended up getting a seat and i watched the plane leave.
This is too funny. I was at LGA the other day and saw this hot girl (very stupid, I must add) arguing with the gate agent about not getting a seat on her flight to Detroit. She was on buddy pass and OBVIOUSLY wasn't gonna get a seat flying standby during the Thanksgiving weekend.
You have to be an idiot to rely on a buddy pass on high peak travel periods. The gate agent was actually cracking up at the girl's stupidity. I was waiting for my flight. This girl went back and forth four times to the gate agent, insisting on getting a seat. The gate agent shook her head in disbelief, smiling at the girl's ignorance.

$50 per year. But hey, that's still pretty good. American and Continental have to pay each time they non-rev. Don't know about AA but COA is $11.95 per flight if I remember correctly. Of course, as a pilot, you can avoid this by jumpseating.
As for buddy passes, under Delta they can be used by anyone, anytime (except black out dates, don't want to travel on those anyway!), anywhere. They don't have to travel with the employee, but they do have to pay a yield fare. I think it is 3.5 cents per mile.

With AA, DEN-ORD is $12 coach and $19 first. It is per mile. ORD-SEA is $15 Y, and $31 F. Would like to hear what NWA and Delta's is out of curiosity. But we can fly for free on any airline other than the one we work for? SOOO ____backwards. We should fly for free on our own airline and have to pay for another airline, in my opinion. It adds up if your a commuter.

We can only avoid a non-rev fee if the aircraft is completely full and 1W is the only seat available. Even if we were to try to convince the CA to sit jumpseat we would still be charged for a Y or F seat if not full.

-There isn't one. You just pay the $50 per year Travelnet access fee than you can non-rev anywhere in the US for free. International, they take the taxes and fees out of your paycheck. Buddy passes are a different story, those are per mile.
-That bites. Unless they have changed it, at COA if you list as a non-rev and get on as a non-rev you pay the fee. If you list for the jumpseat and you get on as a jumpseater, seat or no-seat you don't pay. The difference is that when you list for the jumpseat you are the last on the list of non-revs for the cabin.
I applied Nov 14th and got a call Nov 28th for an interview on Dec 10th. Good luck man. I have no idea why i was called so soon.
Out of curiosity, did you have someone walk it in (pilot, union rep, etc.), or did you just fill out an online app and just leave it at that? If you don't mind, flight times? Thanks!
Quick question for some people who have applied before or our at Mesaba. I applied about 2-3 weeks ago and currently my first class medical privleges have expired. I put this on my application that it's not current. Should I go out right away and renew the medical to up my chances or is that not to big of a factor?

This has already been discussed, but I will sum it up for you. Why would you NOT get a new medical? First off you will need one anyway if you are hired, second off, it is a requirement for employment! Not taking the time to get an updated medical shows them what kind of person you are, i.e. one that is not all too serious about getting the job. Just my 2 cents.
Yeah, if you want to come across as being serious about getting the job, most definitely. Doesn't it say that this is a requirement? They're going through hundreds of applications... do you think yours would make it through the first round if you don't even meet their requirements? I'd get it ASAP and update the app. Good luck to ya!
